urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infection is a common condition, including urethritis. The symptoms of urinary tract infection are usually obvious and have the opportunity to recur; if not treated properly, the consequences can be serious.

symptom

- Frequent urination: Frequent urination, but only a small amount of urine can be passed at a time

- Painful, burning sensation when urinating

- Cloudy, even bloody urine

- Pain in the lower abdomen (near the pubic bone), indicating a bladder infection

- If you have fever, low back pain, nausea, and vomiting, it may indicate that the kidneys may be infected

Women are more likely to suffer from urinary tract infections than men, mainly due to differences in physiological structure:

- Urethral length

The male urethra is about 15 cm long, while the female urethra is only 5 cm long, so bacteria can easily go straight up to the bladder, and then flow back up to the kidneys.

- Stimulation of sexual activity

The entry of the penis not only stimulates the sexual organs, but also sends bacteria from the vulva into the woman's urethra.

- The opening of the urethra

The male urethral opening is at the front of the penis, while the female urethral opening is at the vulva, adjacent to the vaginal opening, close to the anus, and surrounded by the labia and labia. If the vulva is not clean or wipes from the anus forward after going to the toilet, it is easy to be attacked by bacteria in the vulva, vagina or anus and cause infection.

period of particular susceptibility

Pregnancy: The expanding uterus presses on the bladder, preventing the bladder from fully emptying the bladder

Menopause: weakened resistance

Test rationale and limitations

The test strip may be affected by absorption of substances in urine and the color of the reagent area may be hidden or altered, giving false results.

leukocyte:

The detection of white blood cells is based on the detection of specific enzymes of these cells. These cells appear when an infection causes inflammation. If an infection is present, the color of the reaction zone will change from pink to purple. High protein concentrations (>500mg/dL), high glucose concentrations (>2g/dL), or high concentrations of antibiotics can produce erroneous results.

Nitrite:

Produced by the bacteria involved in most UTIs (i.e. Enterobacteriaceae). A urinary tract infection caused by one of these bacteria can cause the reactive area to turn pink. Fasting, a vegetable-free diet, or taking medications containing benzopyridines may lead to false results.

protein:

Proteins present in the urine may cause false positive results for white blood cell parameters. In the presence of protein in the urine, the reaction zone changes color from yellow to green or even blue.

blood:

In the presence of blood, the corresponding reaction zone changes from orange to green and even dark blue. Blood in the urine is a criterion of severity. If the result is positive, consult your doctor. Women often get positive results during menstruation.

Instructions for use

1. Take the test strip out of the aluminum bag before use, do not touch the reagent area

2. Urinate for 1 to 2 seconds, then hold the reagent area of the test strip down for 1 to 2 seconds to ensure that all reagent areas are fully soaked in the urine

NOTE: You can also urinate into a clean, dry container, dip the reagent area of the test strip into the urine and remove it immediately to avoid reagent dissolution. When removing the test strip from urine, slide the test strip over the edge of the urine container to remove excess urine

3. Lay the test strip flat on absorbent material (such as paper towels) to avoid mixing adjacent reagent areas with chemicals or getting urine on hands

4. Compare the corresponding color block in the reagent area with the color comparison table, place the test strip close to the color block and compare carefully
